In a significant judgment in a decade-old sexual assault case, the Goa Bench of the Bombay High Court has sentenced former Tehelka magazine editor Tarun Tejpal to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment after convicting him of raping a former colleague. The verdict overturns the trial court’s 2021 judgment that had acquitted the veteran journalist of all charges.
The High Court held Tejpal guilty under provisions of Indian criminal law dealing with rape and sexual harassment, bringing a major legal development in one of India’s most high-profile cases involving allegations of workplace sexual violence.
