He went on to serve four terms as a Lok Sabha MP from Puri — in 1996, 2009, 2014, and 2019. During his extensive parliamentary career, he held seats on key committees, including:

This is also Misra’s second marriage. He was previously married to Sangeeta Misra, with whom he has two children — a son and a daughter. His son is married into the family of Ranjan Bhattacharya, who is the son-in-law of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Interestingly, Misra is also related to former Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra.
