In a quiet ceremony in Germany, fiery TMC MP Mahua Moitra tied the knot with senior BJD leader and four-time MP Pinaki Misra.

A Cross-Party Political Wedding That Took India by Surprise
Mahua Moitra and MP Pinaki Misra in Love at 50 and 65: Wedding Photo Goes Viral
News Desk, New Delhi 05-June: TMC’s firebrand leader and Krishnanagar MP, Mahua Moitra, and BJD veteran Pinaki Misra have reportedly tied the knot in Germany earlier this May. Mahua Moitra and MP Pinaki Misra, in love at 50 and 65, are seen smiling and holding hands in a wedding photograph that recently surfaced online. While neither of the political figures has publicly confirmed the wedding, media reports suggest that the ceremony took place recently in Europe.
The couple’s closeness reportedly began during their overlapping terms in Parliament. Their quiet relationship came under public attention when a photograph from a London date surfaced last year. Now, with their international wedding making headlines, the two have become one of the most talked-about political couples in recent memory.
Mahua Moitra: From Banker to Parliament’s Fierce Voice
Mahua Moitra began her political journey after a successful banking career. She entered the Indian Parliament in 2019 from West Bengal’s Krishnanagar constituency on a Trinamool Congress ticket and quickly became one of the most recognized voices in Lok Sabha debates.
Known for her bold speeches and sharp criticism of the ruling BJP-led government, Mahua often grabbed national attention for her articulate takedowns on issues ranging from civil liberties to data privacy. Despite facing disqualification during her first term over a “cash for query” allegation, her political influence remained strong.
This marks Moitra’s second marriage. She was previously married to Danish financier Lars Brorson in the early 2000s, a marriage that ended before her full-time return to India and politics. In 2023, her name was also linked to Supreme Court advocate Jai Anant Dehadrai, but the relationship reportedly ended on a sour note.
Who is Pinaki Misra?
Pinaki Misra, born on October 23, 1959, in Odisha’s Puri, is a seasoned legal and political figure. An alumnus of St. Stephen’s College and the Faculty of Law, Delhi University, Misra first entered Parliament in 1996 as a Congress MP before aligning with Biju Janata Dal (BJD) under Naveen Patnaik.
He went on to serve four terms as a Lok Sabha MP from Puri — in 1996, 2009, 2014, and 2019. During his extensive parliamentary career, he held seats on key committees, including:
- Finance Standing Committee
- Defence Ministry Panel
- Civil Aviation Committee
- Committee on Law and Justice
- Business Advisory Committee
This is also Misra’s second marriage. He was previously married to Sangeeta Misra, with whom he has two children — a son and a daughter. His son is married into the family of Ranjan Bhattacharya, who is the son-in-law of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Interestingly, Misra is also related to former Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra.
A Private Ceremony, A Public Union
Though both leaders have remained tight-lipped, the political significance of this union is undeniable. Marrying across party lines — from TMC to BJD — both Moitra and Misra bring decades of legal and legislative experience. Their partnership marks a rare and intriguing intersection of personal and political lives in Indian public life.
As social media buzzes with congratulations and curiosity, the couple’s discreet wedding has captured national attention — not for its glamour, but for the personalities involved and the quiet dignity with which they chose to celebrate their bond.
