Three New Supreme Court Judges Sworn In

News Desk, New Delhi, 31-May:In a significant development for India’s judiciary, Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud administered the oath of office to three new Supreme Court judges on Thursday, 30 May. The newly sworn-in judges are Karnataka High Court Chief Justice NV Anjaria, Gauhati High Court Chief Justice Vijay Bishnoi, and Bombay High Court judge AS Chandurkar.

Their appointment fills all existing vacancies, temporarily restoring the Supreme Court’s working strength to 34 judges, including the CJI. However, a vacancy is expected to arise on 9 June following the superannuation of Justice Bela M Trivedi.

The appointment of the three judges was officially notified by Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal on 29 May via social media platform X, following a recommendation by the apex court collegium headed by CJI Chandrachud.

These appointments were made against vacancies created by the retirement of former Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna, and Justices Abhay S Oka and Hrishikesh Roy.
