Hailing from Kottayam district, Gopalakrishna Kurup had obtained law degree and enrolled as a lawyer in He began practising at Kerela High Court 1984 under advocate N Raghava Kurup, who was his uncle and an MLA. He had served as the state prosecutor from 1999 to 2001. In 2005, he was designated as a senior advocate by the High Court.
