About the Journal

The De Novo Journal is a bi-monthly, Peer Reviewed Journal specialising in the arena of Law, Media, Management, Humanities and Technology. It is a privately run Indian Journal by The Legal Observer in collaboration with Advoker. The Editorial team of the De Novo Journal consists of Justices and well-known and widely recognized professionals from India.

The aim of the De Novo Journal is to bring together all the Law students, researchers and professionals undertaking research within the broad theme of contemporary issues in the field of law to provide a collaborative environment for the exchange of ideas.

De Novo Journal is structured in a manner that allows students, researchers and professionals at different levels of their professional journey to participate. All the papers shall be supported by comments from juries to help improve their work. It is hoped that De Novo Journal will create opportunities and a platform for young lawyers and researchers to dialogue and sharpen their research ideas and professional networks.

Theme for the Publication

In the event of the First issue of the De Novo Journal, we extend a warm invitation to the participants to contribute their original research work on the following themes and sub-themes: 

  1. LegalTech Startup Entrepreneurship
  2. Legal Startups and Legal Services, Documentations, Compliances and Technology
  3. Comparative perspective between Legal Startups in India and other leading countries
  4. Adoption of the legal tech: Analysis of the current adoption of legal tech in India and market sentiments
  5. Legal research methodology: Use and development 
  6. The era of artificial intelligence
  • Data Protection and Right to Privacy
  • Information Technology Act, 2000 and Protection of Privacy in India.
  • Sensitive personal information, legal validity and protection – global approach.
  • The judicial approach in Protection of Privacy and Data.
  • Present and future challenges faced by enforcement authorities in safeguarding the right to privacy in cyberspace.
  • Rise of Artificial intelligence and digital data analytics: a threat or boon for mankind?
  • Paradigms of right to privacy vis-a-vis constitutionalism. Regulatory regimes & emerging trends in right to privacy.
  • The proportionality test: treading the line between national security and the individual right to privacy
  • International Humanitarian Law and Technology

Submission Guidelines 

  1. The submissions may be made under the following categories; the word limit
     is exclusive of footnotes: 

●       Research paper: 3000 – 7000 words

●       Article: 2000-3500 words

●       Short Note & Case Commentaries: 1500 – 2000 words

  • The submission must be unpublished and should not be currently under review at any other journal/conference/book etc. It should not be submitted to any other journal/conference while in the process of reviewing with us.
  • The submission must be the original work of the authors.
  • Plagiarism should not exceed 15% and should be free from grammatical, spelling, and any other errors. It must also not contain any defamatory words.
  • Submission must be accompanied by an abstract of not more than 300 words and author(s) affiliation. The paper will not be accepted without an abstract.
  • All footnotes/references in the submission must conform to the bluebook 21st Edition.
  • Co-Authorship is allowed for up to 2 Authors.
  • Copyright over the published material shall vest with the De Novo Journal and Advoker.
  • A separate cover letter mentioning the Name(s) of the Author(s), E-mail id, Mobile number, the title of the manuscript, and the name of the Institution, shall be sent along with the submission when the submission is made.
  1. All submissions must be made in .doc format. No pdf format shall be entertained.

Important Dates

  • Last date of Submission: February 20th, 2023
  • Communication of Review Result: Within 7 days of submission.

Manuscript Processing Charges

  • For Indian Authors: ₹ 250
  • For International Authors: $10

Award and Prizes

  1. The Best publication will be awarded a Cash Prize of Rs. 5,100/-, a certificate and an internship in a reputed law firm for a month.
  2. The 2nd and 3rd best publications will be awarded a Cash Prize of Rs. 2,100/- and Rs. 1,100/- respectively and certificates.
  3. All the Authors of the De Novo Journal will be given an e-Certificate of Publication.

The top 3 publications shall be published in the premium legal magazine ‘The Legal Observer’ and will be awarded by the Hon’ble Justice which shall be revealed later.
