“A Short Documentary on the Quran…”: Allahabad High Court on “Adipurush”

Lucknow: The Allahabad High Court on Wednesday pulled up the makers of “Adipurushi” for the “very disgraceful manner” in which the film portrayed Ramayana characters and asked them to imagine the law and order problem if the Quran was treated the same. The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court, which was hearing a plea to ban the film, asked why such films are made on Ramayana, Quran or Bible if they disturb religious sentiments.

“Suppose a small documentary was made on the Quran, can you imagine what a serious law and order problem would have arisen. But because of the tolerance of Hindus, despite the mistake of the filmmakers, things will not get ugly,” said Justice Rajesh. Singh’s vacationer. Chauhan and Shree Prakash Singh. “Lord Shiva was shown running with his trishul in the film. Now Lord Ram and other characters of Ramayana were presented in a very dishonorable manner. Shouldn’t that stop?” asked the bench.

The court said in the hearing that “the court should remain silent considering the entertaining manner of the film”.The board expressed the need for specific guidelines to make such films and emphasized that films made on religious themes should not “inflame the religious feelings of any community”. The court also said that the court has no religious leanings and if an appeal to the Koran or the Bible had come before it, it would have taken the same strict stance. Justice Singh asked the filmmakers why they don’t make films that show Lord Ram’s sacrifice and love for his brother Bharat.

On a plea by the production house’s senior counsel Sudeep Seth that the book depicting the costume of Lord Ram and other Ramayana characters does not exist, Justice Singh asked Seth if he had read the original copy of the Constitution of India. contains images of Lord Ram and other gods in these robes. Seth was speechless when the bench asked him if he would like to worship idols of scantily clad gods in his prayer room, as shown in the movie.

Hearing a PIL filed by Kuldeep Tiwari and Naveen Dhawan against the ban of the film, the bench asked Advocate General S B Pandey why the central government did not confirm the certificate issued by the Film Certification Center for the release of the film. To this Mr. Pandey said that the bench should find a solution and oppose the PIL, saying that the Censor Board had given the certificate for the broadcast of the film after it was watched by many senior members of the government.

“Good sense should prevail over such sacramental members,” the bench sharply responded in a packed open session. When another advocate general V K Shah was asked by a colleague why the state government did not take any action, he said that the action of the filmmakers was irreparable. Earlier, while discussing the PIL, supporters Ranjana Agnihotri and Prince Lenin insisted that the film be banned immediately.

After hearing the PIL, the bench proposed to pass the order in its chamber. The court, however, suggested that it can issue a notice to the producers of “Adipurushi” and ask the central government why it did not take action to cancel the telecast of the film given by the Censor Board.
