On Wednesday, the Supreme Court transferred all FIRs registered against former BJP spokeswoman Nupur Sharma to Delhi for her comments on the Prophet Muhammad and matched them with those registered in the capital.
Judges Surya Kant and J.B. Pardiwala also granted ex-BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma power from arrest pending investigation.
This incident is being investigated by the Delhi Police Information Fusion Strategic Operations (IFSO) Unit investigating the Delhi incident.
As the Court had already recognized the serious threat to the life and liberty of the Applicant (Nupur Sharma), and as certain cases in this regard had been cited in a previous Order of 19 July 2022, the Applicant (Nupur Sharma) asked the Court to order all FIRs to be submitted for investigation purposes. He was transferred to the Delhi Police and beaten with clubs.
In a July 19 order, the court had already granted Nupur Sharma power from arrest, but she indicated in new filings that other FIRs had been registered against her.
Therefore, the Court granted her relief and the Delhi Police ensured that the first FIR registered in Maharashtra and the FIR registered by the IFSO entity would be investigated together by defeating the other FIRs.
Nupur Sharma had asked to overturn her FIR, but the Supreme Court said she could appeal to the Delhi High Court for that purpose.
