Justice Satish Chandra Sharma takes oath as the Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court, brief biography about him

The oath ceremony of Justice Satish Chandra Sharna as Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court is administered by Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena at Raj Bhavan, Delhi. 

Telangana high court chief justice Satish Chandra Sharma will be holding the office of chief justice of the Delhi high court. On 19th June 2022, the Ministry of Law and Justice with the consent of the President issued the notification of his appointment. 

The President, after consultation with the Chief Justice of India, is pleased to transfer Justice Satish Chandra Sharma, chief justice, Telangana high court, as the chief justice of the Delhi high court and to direct him to assume charge of the office of the chief justice of the Delhi high court.  

On November 30, 1961, he was born in Bhopal and completed 10th standard from Christ Church Boys Higher Secondary School and 12th standard from Central School, Jabalpur. He obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Science in 1981 from Dr Harisingh Gour University (DHGU), Sagar, with distinction in three subjects. 

He graduated at the top of his class and obtained his Bachelor of Laws from DHGU in 1984 with three university gold medals. During his postgraduation, he was awarded the National Merit Scholarship.

He enrolled as an advocate on September 1, 1984, he practised constitutional, civil and criminal cases before the High Court of Madhya Pradesh at Jabalpur. He was appointed Additional Central Government counsel on May 28, 1993, and was appointed senior panel counsel by the Government of India on June 28, 2004. 

In 2003, he was designated as a Senior Advocate by the High Court of Madhya Pradesh at the young age of 42, making him one of the youngest senior advocates of the Madhya Pradesh High Court. He was elevated as a judge of the Madhya Pradesh High Court on January 18, 2008, and was gradually appointed as a permanent judge on January 15, 2010. 

Justice Sharma likes reading and is known for his contributions to various universities. He is associated with National Law Universities. He is also on the Advisory Board of National Law Institute University, Bhopal, and has published numerous research papers. He was transferred to Karnataka High Court and took oath on January 4, 2021. Later, he assumed charge as the Acting Chief Justice of Karnataka HC on August 31.
