Appointment of Six Judicial Officers as an Additional Judges Of Bombay High Court

The Centre has issued a notice appointing six judicial officers as additional judges of the Bombay High Court. In the meeting held on September 7, the Collegium led by Chief Justice of India U U Lalit had recommended for the elevation of six judicial officers as judges of the Bombay High Court.

In exercising the powers conferred by clause 1 of Section 224, of the Indian Constitution, the President is pleased to appoint an Additional Judge of the Bombay High Court for a period of two years in accordance with its decree with effect from the date they assume charge of their respective offices, the Department of Justice, Ministry of Law and Justice will exercise their power. 

The President shall appoint the following additional Judges of the Bombay High Court for a period of two years from the date of their respective appointments.

The Bombay HC will now function with a strength of 67 judges. Its sanctioned strength is 94.

The new judges are as follows:

1. Sanjay Anandrao Deshmukh

2. Yanshivraj Gopichand Khobragade

3. Mahendra Wadhumal Chandwani

4. Abhay Sopanrao Waghwase

5. Ravindra Madhusudan Joshi.

6. Vrushali Vijay Joshi

1. Sanjay Anandrao Deshmukh: Born May 12, 1967 and ranked in LL.B. He received his bachelor’s degree from Shivaji University in Kolhapur in 1993. He is from Pune University. He is registered as a lawyer with the Maharashtra and Goa Bar Associations and started his legal practice in Satara in 1993. In 2008, he was directly elected District Judge from the Bar Association and in 2008 was appointed Second District Judge of Parvani. 

He also served as Special Judge of the Bombay Civil Court (MCOCA and NIA). Since July 2017, he has also served as Bandara’s Chief District Judge. 

He served as Secretary in Law & Judiciary in Mantralaya, Mumbai and he was a Principal District Judge at Pune from July 2021.

2. Yanshivraj Gopichand Khobragade: He has completed his M.Com. and LL.B. He was the Principal District and Session Judge of Aurangabad. 

3. Mahendra Wadhumal Chandwani: Mahendra Wadhumal Chandwani is sworn in as Additional Judge of the Bombay High Court. Chandwani was the Registrar General of Bombay High Court before being elevated.

4. Ravindra Madhusudan Joshi: He has completed his degree in M.Com., MBA (Financial Management), LL.B., Commerce, Management and Law. He is a Senior Legal Consultant and Practicing advocate at the Bombay High Court and Pune District Court. 
5. Vrushali Vijay Joshi: Previously, she was a director of VAISHALI INDIA LIMITED and Vrushali Vijay Joshi is registered with the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA). Vrushali Vijay Joshi previously worked for a company called Vaishali Limited in India and was also a Legal Assistant Manager at Tata Business Services & Support Limited.
