Delhi Riots conspiracy: High Court reserves verdict On Umar Khalid’s bail plea

The Delhi High Court has reserved its order on Umar Khalid’s bail plea . Court’s update has come at a time when the Karkardooma Court rejected his bail application in March, 2022.

Khalid, an activist who was also a member of Jawahar Lal Nehru University Students’ Union (JNUSU) was arrested by Delhi Police in connection with the violence which had erupted in North -West Delhi in 2020 . Then Delhi Police found Khalid guilty for disrupting religious sentiments and charged him for being a part of a larger conspiracy in the riots that had shaken the national capital that year.

Khalid was arrested on a charge sheet filed in July 2020 for being involved in protests and clashes which had erupted in North West Delhi.

The prosecution, while arguing against Khalid’s bail plea, stated that he delivered a ‘calculated speech’. While as per Special Public Prosecutor Amit Prasad, Khalid’s speech did not only focus on the anti-CAA or NRC protests but also dialated on issues which were concerned with a particular community.
