The Supreme Court’s hearings were webcast live today for the first time in its 71-year history. Ceremonial bench, which included outgoing Chief Justice of India NV Ramana, was streamed live.
On his final working day, Chief Justice of India NV Ramana shared the bench with the incoming chief justice in accordance with accepted practise. Justice UU Lalit was just named the 49th Chief Justice of India.
Currently, six High courts, Patna, Karnartaka, Madhya Pradesh, Gujrat, Jharkhand and Odisha have their own channels on YouTube to live stream their proceedings. These proceedings are streamed on the basis of the Supreme Court’s e-Committee’s model guidelines, a set of directions aimed at regulating live.
On 26 September, 2018, a Bench led by then Chief Justice of India (CJI) Dipak Misra declared live telecast of court proceedings part of the right to access justice under Article 21 of the Constitution.
Today, the proceedings of the Hon’ble Chief Justice’ Court, or Ceremonial Bench, on August 26, 2022, beginning at 10:30 A.M., was live streamed through the NIC’ Webcast page on the eve of the Hon’ble Chief Justice of India’s retirement.
It was disclosed that the Supreme Court e-committee was creating a separate website to host these live broadcasts, which was accessible to the High Courts and district courts as well.
