Supreme Court Collegium Recommends Ten Judges for Allahabad High Court

The Supreme Court Collegium recommended that ten additional High Court justices be given permanent positions. The Collegium stated in its resolution posted on the apex court website that it considered the 10 nominees qualified to be appointed permanent judges. The ten judges who were appointed as permanent judges are:

  • Justice Chandra Kumar Rai;
  • Justice Krishan Pahal
  • Justice Sameer Jain
  • Justice Ashutosh Srivastava
  • Justice Subhash Vidyarthi;
  • Justice Brij Raj Singh;
  • Justice Shree Prakash Singh;
  • Justice Vikas Budhwar
  • Justice Om Prakash Tripathi;
  • Justice Vikram D. Chauhan

The Collegium of the Allahabad High Court of Judicature unanimously recommended the aforementioned 10 Additional Judges for appointment as Permanent Judges of that High Court on November 23, 2022. The aforementioned recommendation has received the support of both the Chief Minister and the Governor of Uttar Pradesh.

A consultation was held with Supreme Court judges familiar with the activities of the High Court of Judicature in Allahabad in order to determine the fitness and appropriateness of the aforementioned Additional Judges to be appointed as Permanent Judges in accordance with the Memorandum of Procedure.

After that, a meeting with judges from the Supreme Court familiar with the affairs of the High Court of Judicature in Allahabad was held to determine the fitness and suitability of the aforementioned Additional Judges in order to determine their suitability for elevation under the Memorandum of Procedure.

In accordance with this, a committee established to evaluate the decisions of the aforementioned Additional Judges provided its report, and today’s recommendations were made after the Collegium carefully reviewed and assessed the documentation submitted, including the observations made in the file by the Department of Justice.
