SC collegium recommends transfer of Orissa Chief Justice Muralidhar to Madras High Court

The Supreme Court Collegium, led by Chief Justice Uday Umesh Lalit, recommended to the Centre that Justice S Muralidhar, the Chief Justice of the Orissa High Court, be appointed as the Chief Justice of the Madras High Court.

Justices D Y Chandrachud and Sanjay Kishan Kaul were also members of the collegium, which was held on Wednesday to discuss various topics, including the replacement of high court judges. The collegium decided to move Justice Muralidhar to the Madras High Court in the same role at the meeting.

On January 4th, 2021, Justice S Muralidhar took the oath of office as Chief Justice of the Orissa High Court. Justice Muralidhar was born on August 8th, 1961. He started practising law in Chennai in September 1984.

He moved to Delhi three years later to practise law in the Delhi High Court and the Supreme Court. Initially he was appointed as a judge of the Delhi High Court in May 2006, Justice Muralidhar was subsequently moved to the Punjab and Haryana High Court on March 6, 2020, and then elevated to the position of Chief Justice of the Orissa High Court.
