Re-designation of Assistant Solicitor General of India as “Deputy Solicitor General of India”

The Assistant Solicitor General of India has been renamed Deputy Solicitor General of India, according to a notification from the Central government on Tuesday. The Senior Central Government Standing Counsel of High Courts was renamed as Deputy Solicitors General of India in an Official Memorandum published by the Central Ministry of Law and Justice. It was done to minimise confusion because the Additional Solicitor General of India is also referred to as ASG.

“As both the Additional Solicitor General of India and the Assistant Solicitor General of India use the abbreviation “ASG,” the competent authority has decided to rename the position from “Assistant Solicitor General of India” to “Deputy Solicitor General of India.” The terms and conditions outlined in this Department’s OM No. 26(1)/99-Judl. dated 24.09.1 999 will continue to apply to them “a memo sent out on September 13 stated.
