President Murmu appoints Justice DY Chandrachud as the next Chief Justice of India

In exercise of the power conferred by the Constitution of India, Hon’ble President appoints Dr. Justice DY Chandrachud, Judge, Supreme Court as the Chief Justice of India with effect from 9th November, 2022.

On Monday the Ministry of Law and Justice notified the appointment of Justice Day Chandrachud as 50th Chief Justice of India w.e.f 09th November 2022.

On October 11, the outgoing CJI, UU Lalit, recommended Justice Chandrachud as his successor. As CJI, Justice Chandrachud will serve for more than two years, until November 10, 2024, making it one of the longest terms for a CJI in recent history.

Justice YV Chandrachud father of Justice DY Chandrachud is still the longest serving CJI, serving from 2 February 1978 to 11 July 1985.
