PM Modi In Independence Day Speech: “Let’s Pledge To Wipe Out Misogyny”

On India’s 75th Independence anniversary today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation from the Red Fort, emphasizing the dignity of “Nari Shakti” (Women’s Power). He mentioned his determination to fulfill the dream of Indian freedom fighters: “Prejudice creeps into our actions and sometimes offends women. Can you promise to eliminate it in our actions?” he added.

Respect for women is critical to India’s growth. The prime minister said it was a strong pillar, adding that ‘Nari Shakti’ must be supported. 

We should celebrate India’s diversity. Even at home, when sons and daughters should be treated, roots of unity requires to be sown. Otherwise, the mantra of unity cannot resonate. Gender equality is an essential parameter of solidarity, he said. 

The Prime Minister recalled the contributions of women freedom fighters in India. “All Indians take pride in remembering the strength of Indian women such as Rani Lakshmi Bai, Jalkari Bai, Chennama, and Begum Hazrat Mahal,”  Modi said. 

He said women must play a key role if India is to achieve the goals aspired to by freedom fighters in the next 25 years. He added that if women can be uplifted and empowered, they can achieve their goals with less time and effort.

Prime Minister Modi praised the country’s women who are at the forefront in fields ranging from sports to the military, saying, “I believe that over the next 25 years, women in this country will make a considerable contribution. 

The Prime Minister mentioned that, whether in science or education, women in the country are at the forefront. Whether in sports or on the battlefield,  women in India are stepping forward with new skills and confidence. The contribution of women in the next 25 years has far surpassed its 75-year journey.
