Detained in connection with the Rs 1,034 crore Patra Chawl land scam case, Shiv Sena member of parliament Sanjay Raut submitted a bail petition on Wednesday, and the Mumbai court reserved its decision. The court’s decision is anticipated to be made on November 9, 2022.
Despite the fact that money is said to have been transferred through Sanjay Raut’s assistant, Praveen Raut, Special Judge MG Deshpande had previously noted that Sanjay Raut was, at least initially the target of the purported money laundering trail, making it appear as though he was the recipient of criminal proceeds.
He is currently being held in judicial custody at Mumbai’s Arthur Road Jail. The alleged financial irregularities in the redevelopment of the Patra Chawl and other financial transactions involving his wife and acquaintances are the subject of the ED investigation. Patra Chawl, is a 47-acre neighbourhood in Goregaon that is home to 672 tenant households.
It is alleged that the directors of infrastructure business HDIL and others defrauded the relocated residents rather than giving them homes. According to the allegations, HDIL and Guru Ashish Constructions received a total of Rs 1,039.70 crore, of which Pravin Raut allegedly received Rs 112 crore.
The Shiv Sena MP and his family were allegedly “direct beneficiaries” of Rs 1.06 crore, according to the ED. In addition to providing certain flats to MHADA, the GACPL was mandated to construct 672 apartments for the residents.
The remaining acreage could be offered for sale to private developers. But for the past 14 years, the residents have not received a single unit.
