Law Minister kiren Rijiju gets unexpected support on Collegium issue from Congress MP

The Law Minister Mr Kiren Rijuju has received unexpected support from the opposition camp on the collegium issue. In a freewheeling interview with the senior journalist and founder editor of The Legal Observer, Mr Manoj Rastogi also criticized Supreme Court’s decision on striking down NJAC. Congress Rajya Sabha MP and eminent jurist Mr KTS Tulsi quoted a recorded text of Dr BR Ambedkar wherein it was said, “We are not giving him (Chief Justice) vito. It is an Executive power and will be exercised by the President in accordance with Parliamentary practices”. He further said “In the Constitution, it is written that the President will appoint (collegium) in consultation with the Chief Justice or other Justices. And the word “consultation” has been read by the Supreme Court into “concurrence”.
