Justice Rashmin Manharbhai Chhaya has taken an oath in the Durbar Hall of Raj Bhavan as the new Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court. Governor of Assam Prof. Jagdish Mukhi has administered the oath of Chief Justice Rashmin Manharbhai Chhaya. Justice Rashmin Manharbhai Chhaya, senior-most Judge of Gujarat High Court had performed the duties of the office of the Chief Justice of Gujarat High Court from September 2021 consequent upon the retirement of Shri Justice Vineet Kothari.
Justice Rashmin Manharbhai Chhaya has been appointed as the new Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court. He was born on 12 January 1961 in Veraval, Gujarat. He did Law at L.A. Shah Law College from Gujarat University and passed out Third L.L.B. (Special) Examination in the year 1984. He enrolled as an advocate with the Bar Council of Gujarat in the year 1984. He has specialized in Land Laws, Land Acquisition Matters, Town Planning Act and Trade Mark Act.
Justice Chhaya formerly served as a Judge of the Gujarat High Court. Justice Chhaya enrolled as an Advocate with the Bar Council of Gujarat in 1984 and joined the offices of Trade Mark Attorney and Purnanand and Company Government Solicitors. In 1991, he was appointed Assistant Government Pleader and Additional Public Prosecutor at the Gujarat High Court, where he worked till March 1995. On February 17, 2011, he was appointed as an Additional Judge of the Gujarat High Court, and on January 28, 2013, he was confirmed as a permanent Judge.
He appeared in various constitutional matters as well as town planning and land acquisition matters.
