Justice Chandrachud Emphasises opting For More And More Promotion Of Technology In Judiciary

Justice Chandrachud, who is also the chairperson of the Supreme Court’s E-committee, has said that judicial institutions should come ahead and become harbingers of change in the system where there are so many bindings on the judges as well as on judiciary.
Chandrachud who is known for giving important  judgements in the past has long batted for use of more and more technology by judicial institutions. While giving importance to the use of technology in Indian courts, Justice Chandrachud said, I saw one with his mobile device, possibly recording what we were saying. Initially, my thought was that old feeling- ‘how can he record’? Then I thought – ‘What is the Big deal! I am saying something in open court, if someone wants to record it.. It is not confidential.”
Under the  supervision of Justice Chandrachud, many courts across India have introduced e-filing and due to his efforts they are moving towards total digitalisation and as a result, many high Courts in our country have also started live streaming of proceedings on YouTube.
Justice Chandrachud has also encouraged  advocates to change the earlier trend. We are tired of telling to read soft copies from SCC OnLine.” He added.
Senior Advocate, Mr. Ranjit Kumar joined Justice Chandrachud’s appeal and advocated for the same. He shared an anecdote when an eminent judge of the court G.S.Singhvi used to ask lawyers as to why they were wasting paper and making huge compilations. He further said that we have books in courts which are  occupying so much space.”
Justice Chandrachud even said that he would ask the President of the Supreme Court Bar Association, Vikas Singh to arrange for a training session during the vacations to help advocates to use technology in court hearings.
