NEW DELHI : In a rare instance of open criticism of the Supreme Court’s new listing method introduced in the Top Court after the new Chief Justice Uday Umesh Lalit took charge of his office, a Court Bench consisting of Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul while criticising this system said that it would provide inadequate time for the court judges to take up serious matters for final disposal.
Top Court Bench observed that too many matters come up before them in the afternoon session which leaves the courts with little time to take up matters which are fixed for final disposal on non-miscellaneous days (Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays) in the Supreme Court.
Supreme Court Bench which consisted of Justices Kaul and Abhay S Oka had passed this order while adjourning hearing in a case titled ‘Nagesh Chaudhary Vs State of Uttar Pradesh’ to November 15. In course of their observation, judges had observed , “The new listing system is not giving an adequate time to hear important cases. It is remarkable to note that after taking oath as the 49th CJI, Justice Lalit started streamlining the system and introduced listing of cases as his predecessor Justice N .N V Ramana had earlier conceded that he could not give much attention to this matter.
