Form Regional Bench of Telecom and Dispute Settlement and Appellate Tribunal- MP P. Wilson To IT Minister

Rajya Sabha MP P. Wilson recently communicate to the Minister of Communications Electronics and Information Technology Mr. Ashwini Vaishnaw seeking the establishment of regional benches of Telecom and Dispute Settlement and Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT). 

Telecom Disputes Settlement & Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT) organized a seminar on “25 Years of TRAI Ac. The seminar was inaugurated by Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, the Union Minister for Communications, Electronics & Information Technology and Railways, to commemorate the

25 years long journey of Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) Act. 

In the year 1997, TRAI Act was enacted to regulate the telecommunications sector in India. It also provided for a mechanism of dispute resolution among the stakeholders of the telecom sector. It was amended in 2000, establishing a Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT) to take over the adjudicatory and disputes functions from TRAI. 

MP  P. Wilson suggested setting up regional benches of the TDSAT by invoking section 14B(3)(c) of the TRAI Act, 1997. 

The Regional Benches can be established by notifying four distinct zones namely North, West, East, and South. 

Apart from setting up regional benches, Mr. Wilson also suggested that the Department of Telecommunication should make available necessary infrastructure and employees.
