It was a rare occasion when the courtroom of Chief Justice of India (CJI) NV Ramana turned emotional as a senior advocate broke into tears while others extended farewell greetings. CJI Ramana is retiring today after tenure of almost 8 years at the Supreme Court.
Senior counsel Dushyant Dave got teary eyed and choked during speech while bidding adieu to the outgoing CJI on Friday.
On this day, Senior advocate Dushyant Dave started crying in the courtroom and said, “You are a judge of the people. You maintained checks and balances and did it with a spine and utmost courtesy to the institution and the lawyers. You left this country with amazing constitutional morality and constitutional ethos. It has been a pleasure appearing before you. I may be very pessimistic but I have great satisfaction that your lordship is leaving the court in great hands of Justice Lalit. We will miss you.”
He expressed his gratitude to CJI Ramana by stating that the “atmosphere and power” that the CJI had given to the institution would be carried on forward.
This is the first time in the history of the Supreme Court that the ceremonial bench of a CJI was live streamed. Which was a webcast on the Supreme Court website.
