The sequel to the Lucifer film series faces legal heat over alleged references to the Godhra riots and the resemblance of a key antagonist to a Bajrang Dal leader.

A political row has erupted over the Malayalam film Empuraan, with a BJP leader moving the Kerala High Court seeking to halt its release. The petitioner, V.V. Vijesh, who is affiliated with the BJP’s Thrissur District Committee, has raised objections to certain scenes in the movie that reportedly portray the communal unrest following the Godhra incident.

In his writ petition, Vijesh has alleged that the film contains visuals that could potentially stoke communal tensions. The portrayal of the riots, he claimed, is provocative and may disrupt communal harmony. Further controversy has been sparked by the characterisation of the film’s antagonist, which the petitioner argues bears resemblance to a prominent Bajrang Dal figure.

Empuraan, a high-profile sequel to the blockbuster Lucifer, stars Mohanlal in the lead and is backed by a substantial production budget. The matter is now pending before the High Court, with legal and political observers closely watching how the case unfolds.
